Are you looking for an outdoor adventure? Then this is the event for you! On August 20, 2023, Canaan will be hosting the annual Revenge of the Rattlesnake Race. This 25-mile single loop backcountry mountain bike race is sure to test your grit and toughness. Participants will face 2500ft of climbing and descending while navigating through rocks, roots, and mud. It’s a true test of skill and endurance that adventurous riders won’t want to miss out on!

This year’s Revenge of the Rattlesnake course includes some of Canaan’s most challenging trails, including sections of singletrack, doubletrack, and gravel roads. This race isn’t just about testing your limits – it’s also about having fun! We know that with any outdoor adventure there is always a level of risk involved but we strive to make this event as safe as possible for all participants. The race will have aid stations throughout the course where participants can refuel with snacks and drinks.

The race will start at 10 a.m. at the Camp 70 Rd. gateway entrance to the “Thumb Trails”. Racers will climb up Route 32 to Plantation Trail and continue up Fire Trail 6. From there, riders will proceed on the scenic Canaan Loop Rd (Forest Road 13) to Davis Trail and descend into Blackwater Falls State Park to Yellow Birch Trail onto River Road Trail back towards the town of Davis and back to Camp 70. The second half of the race will take racers on the expert loop to Moon Rocks where they will complete the challenging circle and finish at the starting line.

Not only will riders get an adrenaline rush from taking on this challenging course, but they’ll also have the opportunity to help support a great cause as proceeds from registration fees will go towards Blackwater Bicycle Assocation. Plus, there are prizes for participants who finish first in their categories!
