Trails

Blackwater Bicycle Association partners with the West Virginia Land Trust to maintain the Camp 70 Trails.

The Camp 70 Trails Gateway leads to a unique collection of trails managed by various landowners along Camp 70 road. From here you can access trails to Little Wildlife Management Area (WMA), National Youth Science Foundation, and the West Virginia Land Trust’s Yellow Creek Natural Area. Public and private partnerships allow this trail connectivity that makes the Camp 70 Trails possible. and is representative to a larger goal of the Heart of the Highlands Trail System.

Within this trail system, First Energy Foundation has granted stewardship of 200 acres of their land to the Blackwater Bicycle Association for trail use, parking, and trail signage. This area, known as the “Thumb Trails”, serves both as a close-to-town spot for recreation and gateway to a more extensive trail system. From trail construction to ongoing maintenance, our efforts ensure that bikers, hikers, trail runners, birdwatchers, and fisherman can consistently enjoy the thrill of the outdoors. So come and soak up the natural beauty of this extraordinary region.

Thanks to the hard work of Blackwater Bicycle Association, we are constantly making improvements to these 200 acres for a better user experience.
